Our attorneys helped negotiate a $490 million settlement on behalf of victims of sexual abuse by Dr. Robert Anderson, a former team doctor at the University of Michigan (U-M).

“This historic settlement was achieved because over a thousand brave victims refused to be silenced and demanded accountability from their abuser and the institution which enabled him,” said Attorney Parker Stinar to the Detroit Free Press.

Lead Attorney Parker Stinar and Attorney Michael L. Nimmo, were proud to represent hundreds of victims in the Anderson case against U-M. Among our clients was the very first former U-M athlete to openly speak out about Anderson’s abuse, All-American wrestler and Olympian Andy Hrovat.

Once Hrovat decided to find justice for himself, he reached out to our legal team for help. Sadly, it wasn’t difficult for us to uncover a history of abuse by Anderson. The former physician’s horrific reputation as “Dr. Drop Your Drawers” and “Dr. Glove” preceded him; U-M athletes had long tried to get university officials and administrators to take action against him. Despite this, Anderson continued to work at U-M for decades. He passed away in 2008.

In addition to Anderson’s alleged tendency to conduct medically unnecessary rectal and testicular examinations, he was also known for trading sexual favors with students trying to avoid the Vietnam-era draft.

According to the settlement agreement, $460 million will be paid out to the 1,050 victims who have already filed claims against U-M. The remaining $30 million will be saved for any other victims who decide to take legal action. It should be noted that these additional victims have until July 31, 2023 to file a claim.

Our legal team would like to congratulate our clients on their bravery in standing up against U-M. We were honored to be involved in this litigation from the beginning, and we remain committed to advocating for survivors of sexual abuse.
